Treasury Two

I've just been getting lucky as of late for hitting the right for the treasuries. Last Night I managed to snag another spot. This treasury is based on my two favorite colors, hot pink and black.

You can view the treasury here.

The Friday Five: Sunshine

So I awoke this morning simply wanting to go back to bed. It was freezing downstairs where our bedroom happens to be located. Yes we opted to have a bedroom on the lower level then the upper level, oddly enough the lower level bedroom is the largest in the house. It has two closets and a connected bathroom, we just have to deal with the coldness in the winter. Anyways, I woke up came upstars and outside it is cold, rainy and grey. Definitely not a very exciting looking Friday. Due to these lovely weather conditions we have, This weeks Friday Five theme is going to be sunshine, which I will be using as my keyword in searches. Just what I need to forget about the dreary weather outside.

My Very First Treasury

So I was roaming around the treasuries earlier today and noticed that the treasury west was going to have some opening. So I staled the treasury for 2 hours so I could make my first one. It was quite exciting and fun to make.

I chose the theme "Nature Inspired" It features items that are well inspired by nature and sticks to a color pallet of mostly brown and greens. I've had spring on the brain lately, I can't wait for the snow to be gone and all the trees to start growing their leaves.

Two new necklaces have also been added to my shop today, both of these are one of a kind designs. You can view these two necklaces and more at my shop, candycrack.etsy.com.

I was also informed by my first customer today that she has been getting tons of comments on her necklace, and is even now thinking about purchasing another!

A Lovely Morning Surprise

Waking up this morning, I was not in a great mood. I was still quite tired and hadn't gotten enough sleep. The cat's kept waking me up, hours before I needed to get up. When I finally did wake up even the lovely sunshine filled morning didn't make a difference. The sunshine simply irritated me. The blinding effect it had as it reflected off the snow just gave me a headache.

So after feeding the cat's and letting out DJ (our dog). I sat down and checked my e-mail and other various Social Networking sites I visit. I noticed I had a convo on etsy, from my most first buyer. It simply read...

The necklace is even more beautiful than I imagined! Thank you so much!

Talk about a lovely morning surprise. What was a terrible morning, turned around after reading these two short sentences.

I had all kinds of first seller jitters. What if she doesn't like it? What if my packaging wasn't good enough and it get's damaged?(Even though it was in a cotton filled jewelry box that was wrapped, and inside a bubble mailer with extra tape) Many other questions and doubts also rushed through my head.

It's amazing the feeling you can get when you find out someone loves the item they bought from you. I look forward to having more happy customers in the future. My first time selling experience was simply great, I hope they all go this well.

Why I started on Etsy

This is a post for the Etsy Bloggers , bi-weekly blog carnival.

My Chosen Question: What made you open a shop on Etsy? What do you like about being a seller on Etsy? What don't you like?

Well I initially meant to start on Etsy a few years ago, I originally made my account in May 2007. That summer I was planning on starting up a shop and getting things going. However, at that point in time I was much to busy with school, taking care of a new house and numerous other things. So it got delayed, and delayed, and delayed, until just one week ago.

Anyways, I decided to start my shop because creating jewelry has always been something I have loved to do. Even when I was very little, I was creating my own jewelry. It's one of my hobbies from when I was young that definitely stuck.

I'm a big fan of believing that one should enjoy their "job". While Etsy may not be my full-time job, it is a part time job. Too many people wake up every morning and go to a job they despise, this is not something I chose to do. By day I work as a graphic & web designer. In my spare time I get to work on jewelry. I definitely cannot complain about either job.

My favorite thing so far about being a seller on etsy is the freedom to do whatever I would like with my shop. I get to create my own logo and banner, I get to create my own policies and of course my own jewelry designs. For me my shop is another creative outlet, and something I am passionate about.

Now when it comes to my least favorite thing, I can't really say what that is yet. My shop has only been open for a week and I have yet to find something I don't like. I suppose I could say lack of sales, but in my first week I already managed to sell one necklace. Which I think is quite good for someone just starting. I could also maybe say all the self promotion, however it's actually been a fun challenge for me. I've enjoyed doing the research and looking for various ways to promote. Overall I honestly do not have any complaints... yet.

THE FRIDAY FIVE: PENGUINS?

THIS WEEKS FRIDAY FIVE THEME: PENGUINS

While I was sitting at my desk thinking of what my very first friday five should be, in walks my cat meowing. He walks into the room, comes over to me and drops his little penguin toy we bought him for christmas right next to me. Then he proceeds to sit down and stare at me wanting to play. So as I picked up his toy to throw it I thought to myself. "Hmmm, penguins would make an interesting toy." Then as I throw the toy, Tigger remained sitting next to me and just glanced at where the toy was. That's a cat for you, although sometimes he will actually run after it and bring it back... However, those times are few and far between. Now on to this weeks Friday five...

Miss Indecisive

Yes that's me, well when it comes to design aspects anyways. It was only yesterday I gave the whole look of the blog a completely new layout... & today I did it yet again. However this time around I am 100% happy with how it looks, I definitely will not be making any more layout changes anytime soon. I will however be adding much more content, in the near future.

I received one of my orders of vintage keys today, this means new stuff in the very near future. I also ordered even more supplies yesterday as one can never have enough supplies it seems.

I also got a chance to create two new necklaces last night, hopefully I will be able to photograph them tomorrow morning and get them listed a.s.a.p.

I'm also going to be making a "theme day" for Fridays. Every Friday will be "The Friday Five". In which I will display 5 etsy sellers and each Friday Five will have a different theme as well. So look forward to the first ever Friday Five tomorrow!

New Look

Well I finally found a fix for the template upload error that numerous people seem to be having issues with lately. Thanks to the fix I was able to upload and customize the look of the blog. While the new look is definitely a step ahead of the basic template I was using, I'm still not all to thrilled with it.

I will probably continue to play around with other templates, until I find something I am 100% happy with. Although if time permits maybe I will get the chance to sit down on customize one out myself. However, until that point I will remain content with this one.

In etsy news I received a conversation today, asking me to hold an item. I was quite happy considering I only opened my shop a mere 48hrs ago. This definitely perked up my mood and calmed over some worries I had about creating a shop.

I've been quite busy with work the past two days. I'm hoping twords the end of the week I can get some me time to work on some more new creations for the shop. I'm also awaiting some orders of some more vintage keys I can't wait to get my hands on them!

Shop Now Officially Opened!

Well I finally did it today, my shop is now up and running. I'm hopping it does well but I am sure it will be awhile before I really see any sales. I'm going to put all my marketing and advertising skills to work and do my best to promote and become more active in the online craft community.

It's all about the art of self promotion and word of mouth at this point. I am quite excited to see how my shop does.

New Camera

I went to take photographs of my jewelry for my etsy shop, and came to the realization of just how crappy my Kodak point and shoot was. I couldn't get a decent shot of anything, the close up setting on that camera just wouldn't work for my needs. So I came upstairs and started doing some research on cameras, after reading reviews, looking at specs and sample pictures I decided on the Canon PowerShot A590 IS.

It was in the exact price range I was hoping for and I am 100% satisfied with my choice. I took some test pictures as soon as I got home and I instantly fell in love with it. While it isn't a digital SLR like I have been wanting for ages, it will definitely suit my needs for the time being.

Picture of my cat Tigger, you can view the larger version here at Flickr. Considering this is one of the cheaper digital cameras available right now I was highly impressed with the detail of the pictures. Definitely a great camera, and a steal at the price.

Now I can hopefully have my shop stocked by sometime next week.
